30th anniversary - Air Jordan 3 Retro "Katrina"

It's here. After years of speculation, the "jordanheads'" prayers are finally heard. Jordan Brand decided to bring back Air Jordan 3 "Katrina" - which, however, is in fact the first time ever these sneakers made it to the stores.

As most of you are probably aware, in 2005 one of the strongest hurricanes ever hit the East Coast of the U.S. The murderous Katrina ravaged the area, New Orleans mostly, causing approx. 2 000 deaths. Until today, the city's infrastructure has not been rebuilt altogether.

Then in 2006 Nike decided to release a limited number of its iconic Air Jordan 3 model in colorway resembling the original - "Fire Red" - but nicknaming it "Katrina". The sneakers were intended as a symbolic tribute to the victims of the cataclysm, but at the same time they were meant to grant real aid in efforts to reconstruct the areas demolished by the hurricane. All pairs went straight to charity auctions to raise funds, allocated then to compensate the losses.

On 30th model's anniversary and after 12 years of waiting, the sneakers finally are official on sale - to the delight of JB fans. As a part of "The Week of IIIs" initiative, the shoes were shipped to best stores all around the globe only - including SneakerStudio.!

Last thing up our sleeve we'd like to look at is this modest lookbook, showcasing the "Katrinas" that we prepared specially for this occasion. - and if you want to grab your pair of AJ3 "Katrina", do it here.
