When I first saw the CONVERSE x Suicidal Tendencies collection teaser - "dope - period" - was my instant thought. The U.S. brand in question has been getting ever more bold in its collaboration initiatives on various levels with sport, fashion and music agents.

What was Converse's incentive to choose the California crossover/thrash genre pioneers?

Let's take a closer look at the legendary Venice Beach band. Suicidal Tendencies was formed in 1980, by Mike Muir a.k.a Cyco Miko on vocals. Their style defined a brand new musical genre - crossover, an amalgam of metal and hardcore punk. On top of these two, SxTx music is influenced by heavy and thrash metal, elements of funk, hip-hop and punk. Some also consider SxTx to be the precursors of skate punk genre, mostly due to Jim, the elder brother of Cyco - one of the first pro skaters ever and the founder of the legendary skateboard group - Dogtown.

Another thing linking Suicides Tendencies to Converse, a decisive one for the creation of this project, are the iconic All Star – Chuck Taylor sneakers, and what they meant to the musicians themselves.

"When I was young, I still remember getting my first pair of ‘Chucks’ for my birthday and how stoked I was to wear them to school the next day" - "It was almost like a rite of passage, the beautiful thing about them is whatever ‘direction’ you were headed, you could go there with your Chucks" - Cyco said for the collaboration's promo package.

Not enough? Well, there's also the 35th anniversary of the debit Suicidal Tendencies self-titled album and the recent release of their 15th longplay: "Still Cyco Punk After All These Years"!

The collaboration's main theme are classic visuals from the band's posters and leaflets, designed back in the 80s by the illustrator Rica Clayton. The pack includes 2 Converse Chuck Taylor iterations - black and white low top and high top, all in white with Clayton's imagery. When it comes to apparel, all elements bear various band-related visuals, among them being classic hoodieand t-shirts, as well as longsleeves, shorts and sweatpants.

The collaboration package drop date coincided with the release of the latest SxTx album on September 7 2018.
