Old meets new - adidas Originals Futurepacer

23/07/2018
Here we are, once again - an adidas Originals drop comes as a complete surprise. This time the German designers iterated and revived a 1984 project - adidas Micropacer.

Exactly 4 years ago, for their 30th anniversary, a special jubilee version of retro micropacers made it to the selected shelves of the best sneaker stores in the world. To explain the excellence of adidas Micropacer briefly - they was the first ever Internet-of-Things-like interactive sneakers that had a simple "mini computer" built into the tongue. Back in the days of the original model release, the microsensor allowed only the simplest metrics, i.e. distance measurement (pedometer). However, considering the decade - the 80s - the project was not only an innovation, but also a very successful application of a pioneer idea, for a practical use. Because who of the then runners could do without distance, heart rate or burned calories measurement?

After this short introduction to the original micropacers, let's move on to the fresh iteration of those - adidas Futurepacer. At first glance, the both models seem to be most of all similar - in many points. Them being the distinctive "wing-like tongues", side cushioning-supporting blocks on midsole, or similar color distribution. However, there is a single detail. The reissued Futurepacer lack the electronic counter! German designers went all in for the comfort of use, applying the well-known shock absorbing material - Boost Technology foam cushioning.

And the similarity to the German giant's recent sales hit - NMD - is striking. Old meets new!

Those Futuristic micropacers - Futurepacer otherwise - are available here.
